Application Requirements
The Certified Professional Industrial Hygienist, CPIH, is part of MIHA’s initiatives towards achieving the highest standard of Industrial Hygiene practice in Malaysia.
MIHA aims to leverage on the IH profession through professional certification, recognition and collaboration with governmental, industrial, educational and other professional bodies.
If you have the following:
- A postgraduate qualification in Industrial Hygiene OR
- An IH Professional Certification from IOHA NAR Countries OR
- 200 hours of MIHA-recognised IH continuing education

Note: CPIH credential is the Malaysian standard for professional certification in Industrial Hygiene recognised by the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA) National Accreditation Recognition (NAR) Committee. CPIH is recognised by DOSH as equivalent to that of BGC CIH hence enabling a fast-track DOSH competent person registration process
IOHA Recognized (NAR) Certification Scheme
An applicant may submit proof of a valid and good-standing professional Industrial Hygiene certification under any of the IOHA recognized (NAR) certification schemes listed on their website at the time of application.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for the CPIH shall provide evidence of:
a) Undergraduate academic qualification of a CPIH Board recognized basic degree in chemistry, physics, engineering, biology or a related discipline, AND
b) CPIH Board recognized post graduate degree in Industrial Hygiene OR has passed the following five (5) Occupational Hygiene Training Association (OHTA) / W BOHS courses:
- 201 Basic Principals of Industrial Hygiene
- 501 Measurement of Hazardous Substances
- 503 Noise Measurements and its Effects
- 505 Controls of Hazardous Substances
- 507 Health Effects of Hazardous Substances
c) OR Completed 200hrs of MIHA recognized IH continuing education
d) AND CPIH board recognized 2-hr Ethics training.
The Certification Board will consider and may accept any other degree proposed by a candidate who provides evidence of the scientific content of the curriculum. Social sciences are not considered as qualifying sciences. Evaluation of the science content of a bachelor’s degree will be made from the official transcripts. Candidates applying with qualification of Occupational Hygiene Training Association (OHTA) courses MUST complete the following three (3) OHTA courses within the first 5 years of CPIH as part of Certification Maintenance (CM) for CPIH renewal purposes:
- W502 Thermal Environment
- W504 Asbestos and Other Fibres
- W506 Ergonomics
Essentials All academic qualifications submitted must be recognized by the Certification Board. When further information about the content of a degree, such as course descriptions or content is required, the applicant will be requested to provide the information and review of application will not proceed until the information is received.
